Reducing your recycling (in response to reduced Colchester Borough Council recycling collections. Other Essex Councils are currently operating a recycling service)
Please do not create waste and recycling at the present time.
Save the big clearout until normal recycling services return to normal. It’s tempting to do a massive clearout right now but lockdown really isn’t the time to clear out every cupboard in your house. By all means, scrub your curtains, wash your windows, hoover the floors but don’t chuck out lots of things because there’s nowhere to put it right now. Save that decluttering session for once this is all over.
Reduce paper
Go Paperless. Now is a good time to review your paper bills and go paperless. You can change to paperless billing foe most bills such as Energy, Water, Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefit accounts. You can also convert your bank and credit accounts to paperless.
Reduce your Junk Mail. Follow this 11 step guide for getting less and unnecessary junk mail.
Colchester Borough Council have advice on reducing and re-using and storing recycling waste: https://www.colchester.gov.uk/coronavirus/residents/recycling-and-rubbish/?id=&page=how–to–reduce,–reuse–and–store–your–recycling#how–to–reduce,–reuse–and–store–your–recycling

Good Afternoon
Can you please advise on the best place to get rid of (i.e. recycle) the following items (once this Coronavirus business is over of course)?
Worn out clothes and clothes that cannot be easily repaired.
Worn out household fabrics (e.g. towels, sheets, cushion covers, throws, curtains, etc.).
Worn out old cushions and duvets and the like.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Really great post. This answered the majority of my questions. When I read this I actually opened up a word document and started taking notes haha. Betteann Lucian Ardy
