Green Open Days Essex
Inspire other homeowners to take the green path when it comes to home improvements by joining the Green Open Days scheme!
What is a Green Open day?
It is a series of open days where homeowners who have undertaken various environmental home improvements open their homes to the public to encourage them to consider similar improvements to their own properties. The aim of the project is to increase the take up and use of environmental improvements. Evidence suggests people are more likely to install something themselves if they have seen the improvements in action and had a chance to chat to someone about the impact it has made.
What type of properties are we looking for?
All types of homes – in fact, ordinary homes with modest improvements are often the most inspirational. We seek to inspire ordinary members of the public and show them what they can do to their own homes, and what difference it will make to their lifestyle. We are also looking for Businesses, Community Buildings, and Schools to take part. We are interested in properties throughout Essex.
What Type of Environmental Improvements does my house have to have?
Anything that has resulted in a lifestyle change as a result of taking a greener approach. It can be a low-cost improvement or the results of ‘Big’ insulation works. This can include, but is by no means limited to:
- Creating a wildlife garden
- Glazing
- Installation of efficient lighting systems and electrical appliances
- High spec heating
- Using renewable heat and energy sources
- Effective water management
- Use of sustainable building materials
- Using recycled materials
- Water recycling
- Waste recycling
