Recycling News - The crisp and snack packet recycl

Recycling News - The crisp and snack packet recycling scheme operated by KP is set to close on the 2nd December.

This means our latest date for en-form The Colchester Environment Centre to collect crisp and snack packets will be at 1pm on Thursday the 28th November.

If you have any crisp and snack packets ready for recycling please get them to us as soon as possible to allow us time to sort and pack them before the deadline.

All living and non living entities have an impact

All living and non living entities have an impact on the environment. This can be good or bad. With regard to human impact this has become greater over the years of our existence and now is regarded as having a large negative impact. Human impact is based on the activities we do and the number of people doing them. We can choose to change human impact by reducing activity and the number of us.
Global Footprint Network gather information from a wide range of sources and use this to calculate how many earths we currently require to be sustainable. They have linked this with the Olympics. We currently need 1.7 Earths to be sustainable. And based on this each billion people requires 0.21 Earths. So based on current levels of human activity the earth can sustain about 5 billion people. We currently have 8 billion people on the earth and this is growing. So we have quite a challenge ahead of us. The good news is, in 1936 we required 0.27 earths per billion people so we are reducing the impact of our activities, which is quite a surprise.

We have had this Scaletrix track donated to us to be recycled through the TerraCycle UK toy recycling scheme. As it appears to be functional and the track has a sale value we are offering this track for a donation. If you are interested please message us.

When we recently turned up at the office we came across some Barbie dolls sun bathing on our table in breach of a number of en-form The Colchester Environment Centre policies. They were also speeding recklessly round the table in a sports car. They were donated to us under the TerraCycle UK toy recycling scheme. However, they are not broken and we would like to give them a second home. If you would like to offer these dolls or the car a new home please contact us. They are free.

The Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Gosbec

The Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Gosbecks Road in Colchester now takes hard plastic items for recycling.
However, if you have any of these items you want to get rid off and they are still useable please give them away on the various giveaway sites such as freegle and the facebook group Free Stuff Only Colchester
